2026-03-13 An Update on our Proton product range

Since September 2025, we had been offering voucher codes for Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Drive, and Proton Pass in our digitalgoods.proxysto.re shop.

As others have noticed, the range has shrunk considerably in recent months. We currently only have vouchers for Proton Pass in stock. (By the way: Proton Pass is also included in the slightly cheaper SimpleLogin Premium.)

The reason for this is not ours. We would have liked to continue offering voucher codes for Proton. Unfortunately, however, our contact at Proton, who set this up with us, has not responded since the end of October 2025. As a result, we were unable to order new vouchers and could not answer some voucher-related customer questions.

In addition to anonymous or data-minimizing payment methods, vouchers are a good way to maintain a separation between the service provider and the personal information and metadata that may be generated during a payment.

A few days ago, an article by 404media (English, archive link) pointed out that Proton had given payment data from a non-anonymous payment method (credit card) to the FBI, enabling US authorities to link a Proton Mail account to an individual.

The use of vouchers can help you remain anonymous. Service providers do not receive any information from us about who purchased which voucher and when. They only know when they sold a voucher code to us and in which account it was redeemed. It is also not possible to link payment data and codes later, as we delete delivered codes after 30 days.

Of course, even the use of vouchers does not protect against the service provider collecting metadata (e. g., IP addresses) and other personal information.
